How Creativity Can Help You Relax

There is a correlation between creativity and relaxation. In fact, in the book “Freedom Entrepreneur, why hard work causes business failure, and what to do about it,” by Peter Carey, the author states that “ideas best come when you are relaxed.” The same creativity it takes in the beginning phase of your business is the same creativity you will need for your future success. Once we have moved past the start-up phase, and we have achieved a certain level of success, we work even harder; as we try to sustain the success we have gained.

Hard work blocks your creativity. Rather than our creative thoughts and ideas coming to us in a free form, (relaxed, flowing motion) our thoughts become erratic, bombarded, overloaded, and with a since of urgency. Buddhists describe this state of mental anguish as monkey mind. This condition stifles creative progression of thought. One of the best ways to combat this mental constraint is to give in to relaxation.

Relaxation is not merely sleeping in on the weekends or taking scheduled family vacations; or taking a hot bubble-bath after a long day of work and family obligations. Relaxation is something that is purposeful and intentional. It should be programed into your everyday. You should experience a release of bountiful thoughts and ideas to move your business forward. You can get into this creative space even if you are in your business or home office. It’s all about intentionally making time to stop doing hard/busy work and allow creative energy flow.

You don’t have to force creativity; if your mind is unblocked from hard work and open, creativity will naturally occur. Creativity and flexibility comes from a state of calmness and balance. It is also important to get enough rest. Remember, relaxation is not crashing and burning. Relaxation is a very tranquil mental state, and it leads to an easy and continual flow of creative thoughts and ideas.
